Keeping your beard clean, shaped, and trimmed is important, but what method do you use? Do you trim with scissors once in awhile (annoying and difficult)? Do you just shave it when it gets too long and start fresh (drastic)? Or do you have a dedicated grooming tool (best and convenient)?

For the best results and versatility, you’ll want the best beard trimmer you can find. We’ve all got different beards and we’ve all got different needs, but there are a number of options that stand out from the rest.

The interactive chart of trimmers below and the analysis that follows will help you decide what option is right for you and your beard.

These trimmers you see above are some of the best out there. While there are more to choose from, this list is a great place to start. However, if you want to compare even more trimmers, we’ve put together a list of nearly 30 trimmers that you can see here.

What is a beard trimmer?

It is an essential tool for any man that sports a beard and likes to keep it looking neat, tidy, even, and unchanging. It will allow you to maintain your facial hair without having to fully shave it or let it grow wild.

Beard trimmers are usually very similar to the clippers you see in barber shops that are used for cutting the hair on your head. Some clippers actually double as beard grooming tools. However, there are many models that are specifically for the hair on your face, which means they’re better at conforming to the contours of your jaw, they have multiple settings, and they won’t irritate your skin or pull your hairs.

For the best results, you should consider adding a top-rated electric shaver to your routine, or even get an all-in-one trimmer that has a shaving head on one end and a trimming head on the other.

A beard trimmer typically has a basic blade, which you can use for edging or to give you a short stubble, and will include multiple attachments and settings for varying lengths and styles.

You can find both cordless and corded models (sometimes they can operate as both) and the right selection really depends on you and your personal preferences and needs. Corded trimmers tend to have more torque and power, allowing for a consistently better shave, even after extended periods of time. However, cordless trimmers can still be excellent, and they are much easier to travel with and less cumbersome than dealing with a long cord.

How To Find The Best Trimmer For Your Needs

There are so many options and varying specifications when it comes to your facial hair grooming tool, so it can be a bit tough to figure out exactly what one is best for you. However, by using our interactive comparison guide above (or click here for the full list of nearly 30 beard trimmers), you should be able to narrow it down depending on what features are important to you.

Take a look at cost, user-ratings, length range, features and whether it’s cordless or not. You might also consider whether you’ll be using this for your beard alone, or if you have a close-cropped hair cut that could benefit from a new set of clippers, too (there are all-in-one options in the chart above).

Review of the Top 5 Beard Trimmers

There are a lot of good facial hair sculpters out there that will suit your needs pretty well – you could probably find 3 or 4 that, if you purchased them, you would be happy with a few years down the line. However, there are a few that stand out as being just a little bit more special than the others. This doesn’t mean they’ll be right for you, but they will be the best option for a lot of people.

Wahl 8685 & 8655 Peanut

Wahl Beard TrimmerThe Peanut comes in an older white version and a newer black version – they are virtually identical otherwise, so they’re combined in this one top-5 rating.

This Wahl trimmer has a minimal precise trimmer if you do not use a comb attachment, and includes four combs (1/8”, 1/4”, 3/8” and 1/2” or 3mm, 6mm, 10mm and 13mm) for a variety of cuts. While this is far fewer settings than many of the other trimmers, it is at least a decent range and is excellent when used for edging without a comb/guard.

One of the great things about this trimmer is that it has great power while being both light and short. It weighs less than 4 oz (just over 100g) and is less than 4 inches long, but consistently gets high marks for motor power, sharpness of blades, and durability (with some owners reporting absolutely no decay in quality after 5 and even 10 years of ownership and use).

The strange peanut shape may throw you off, but rest assured it will feel amazing when you get it in your hand. If you can get over the non-professional look, you’ll be happy when you realize how good it feels in your mitt when you’re trimming.

Oster Professional 76023-510 Fast Feed Clipper with Adjustable Blade

Oster Beard TrimmerOster is frequently referred to as the best brand when it comes to clippers and trimmers. They typically have unmatched quality, power, and blade sharpness. Of all the Oster models, the 76023-510 Fast Feed comes out on top.

This trimmer will get you a stubble buzz of .5mm and includes guide combs up to 13mm (a blending comb, 1/4”, 3/8” and 1/2” or 6 mm, 10mm and 13 mm). While these are sometimes recommended by professional stylists and barbers for hair, they are a favorite among owners for beard trimming and grooming.

They’re quiet and have a thick, sturdy cord. The cord is solid and of high quality, but might be an adjustment if you are used to the thin, two-side cords that most other clippers have. An added bonus is that these are made in the USA, and are always praised for their quality and years of service that they will give you, all for a fairly reasonable price.

Philips Norelco G370 All In One Grooming System

Philips Norelco Beard TrimmerIf you’re looking for an all in one accessory, you need to give the G370 an in-depth look. This comes with six attachments: a full-sized trimmer, hair clipper comb, a mini shaver, a beard and mustache trimmer, a nose/ear/eyebrow trimmer, and a precision and detailing trimmer.

Basically, you get a lot of versatility for a really good price. For the absolute best shave, you might still want to consider finding the best safety razor in your price range, but otherwise this gadget will satisfy your needs.

For your beard and mustache, you’ll get 9 settings, ranging from 2mm to 18 mm, so you’re sure to find the right length for you. After you get the length right, trim it with the other attachments as needed and you’ll be fully groomed and ready to go.

Longevity seems to be a proven quality of this trimmer, with people reporting upwards of 5 years of fully functioning use, and even more with some basic maintenance and cleaning. Unlike some of the other top trimmers, this Philips Norelco actually comes with a pouch for convenience.

You might consider the QT4014/42 as an upgrade to this set, but there was simply too much evidence pointing to the G370 being the better trimmer now and in the long-term.

Panasonic ER-CA35-K

Panasonic Beard TrimmerIf you travel overseas, this is a very convenient trimmer, because it operates from 100v to 240v. You won’t be stuck with the different voltage if you’re on vacation or away for business, making this a good trimmer for those on the go.

The Panasonic comes with 7 adjustable cutting lengths, and has just about the widest range of sizes, from 3mm all the way to 40mm for those with longer beard preferences (this may not be the best trimmer for a stubble look, but is great if you’re after a bit more length).

Another convenient feature is that it works both with a cord and without, giving you flexibility if you’re at home or on the go. Compared to a lot of other ‘drug-store’ style trimmers, this one is quieter and is deceivingly well-made and sharp. It almost flies under the radar – but is loved by those who own it.

You’ll be happy to know that these are particularly good when it comes to cutting the hair and not pulling or dragging. There’s nothing worse than the irritation and potential skin problems that come from your beard hairs being pulled rather than cut evenly.

Remington MB-200 Titanium

Remington Beard TrimmerInexpensive, subtle, and absolutely loved by the many people who use this clipper (it’s a top-seller and has been reviewed – positively – more than almost any other trimmer). All of the reviews 5-star ratings on this got us interested, and it looks like we’re dealing with a decent classic here.

The Remington has 9 length adjustments allowing for a shave from 1.5mm to 18mm, self-sharpening blades, and a good ergonomic design. Otherwise, you’re not going to find many specialty features on this trimmer. It’s bare basics, but sometimes that can be a good thing.

The Remington cuts your facial hair and it does it well. The settings are fairly well spaced out to give you a good look no matter how long you prefer your beard.

Without many features, there’s not much more we can say about this, other than it has a ton of (5 star) reviews, it’s great value for your money, and people keep buying it!
