Oster has been in the hair clipper business since 1924 and is one of the most trusted brands in the industry.
The Fast Feed is a professional trimmer with a very quiet but powerful pivot motor, which they claim is twice as powerful as a magnetic motor clipper. Although this is a set of clippers, not necessarily a dedicated beard trimmer, it works so well on the facial hair side of things that we had to include it as one of the best beard trimmers out there. If you’ve never used a professional grade trimmer, you’ll be amazed at the quality this Oster gives you.
Four guide combs are included: 1/2”, 3/8”, 1/4” and a blending comb. There are clippers with greater length options, to be sure, but this is a very standard comb assortment. You can also get a very good, close shave if you use the trimmers without a comb. A big bonus of this set is that the blade is easily adjustable so you can get a good range of close shaves from ‘very close’ to ‘medium length’, as they claim on Amazon.com.
Obviously, if you like your beard longer, and of a length other than those provided, or are a stickler for the perfect fade, you might not be turned on by the small assortment of blades.
The Fast Feed has a cord, which can be both good and bad, depending on your point of view.
On the one hand, a trimmer with a cord means that you’re never going to have to worry about the battery dying and getting weaker over time and recharging it for hours isn’t a necessary hassle. The consistency of power from the outlet also means that the motor will be put to it’s full use all the time – the Oster boasts of cutting through wet hair in a cinch.
The other side of the coin is that if you aren’t used to having to deal with a pretty good cord, you might find it awkward and cumbersome. The cord is heavy duty, so it’s round and heavier than the thin, flat two-strand cords on most drug-store or consumer grade clippers. It’s also harder to travel with than some of the smaller rechargeable or battery operated clippers.
Your choice will depend on whether you need flexibility and an easy traveling trimmer or if you simply want a trimmer that cuts hair very well with no messing around.
Oster, being a trusted brand, is known for quality, and this Professional product doesn’t disappoint. The blades are sharp and stay that way, they’re well spaced out, which means they won’t pull your hair and glide effortlessly while cutting. People who own the Oster typically are using it years down the road (some reviews say 10+ years!), with no complaints about it’s longevity or quality. There’s no way that your beard will give this device a run for it’s money.
The clippers don’t have a case, so keep that in mind when you’re buying. Likely not a deal breaker, but knowing beforehand can keep you from brief disappointment when you open up the package. You can, however, get a case if you buy the additional attachment set with the clippers (Oster Professional 10 Universal Comb Set Specially Designed to Fit Oster Clippers), which many people end up doing for both the increase in length ranges and the storage case.
After in-depth research and hundreds of reviews from owners of the Oster Professional 76023-510 Fast Feed, we’re comfortable saying it’s one of the best options out there, even used as a beard trimmer. It consistently receives incredibly high ratings, and has a well above-average ratio of 5-star ratings (over 60% of the owners rate it 5 out of 5 stars).
