Panasonic ER2403K Wet/Dry Hair and Beard Trimmer Review

Panasonic is one of the worlds leading electronics manufacturers. Their portfolio of products includes hair and beard trimmers, four of which we feature on our full beard trimmer guide. They’re all mid to low range on our chart, but remember that we picked some of the top beard trimmers, so it’s not fair to say that Panasonic makes bad trimmers. In fact, they’re quite popular and can be said to be in the mid range of the best trimmers.

One such model is the Panasonic ER2403K Wet/Dry Hair and Beard Trimmer. This trimmer can be used to style, shape and trim facial hair to different lengths. It’s not fancy and it doesn’t have many features, but as a basic trimmer, it’ll certainly do the job.

The Panasonic ER2403K Wet/Dry Hair and Beard Trimmer comes fitted with a spring loaded stainless steel blade. This eases use since users don’t have to frequently adjust blade settings, although this feature is readily available on many of our top trimmers. In addition, the blades are hypoallergenic which protects users from any allergic reactions that might result from shaving. So, a good start in terms of doing what it’s actually supposed to do, and that is cut your hair.

This is one of the few battery operated trimmers and it gets its power from two AAA batteries. The case is quite easy to open to change batteries, but is still sealed tight when closed (which is important and we’ll see why in a moment). Panasonic says you’ll get about 50 minutes out of a set of batteries, so take this into account. Buying batteries will make this unit more expensive over the long term than the initial purchase price would suggest. The power is just OK in these clippers, and if you like to keep your beard longer, you may find yourself needing to go over the same spot a couple of times.

It comes in an ergonomic design which makes use quite easy. The design eases maneuverability when shaving and trimming hair, and this is aided by the fact that the blade is less than an inch wide. With the thin blade, you’ll be able to get into more detail and edging work. We also like smaller blades because they will give you a generally better shave when you take into account the contours of your face. A wide or fat blade just won’t be able to get into the different elevations of our face the same way. It’s pretty sleek and small so easy to store, no matter where you keep it, and is good to have around for travel.

The Panasonic ER2403K is waterproof, which is why it is important that the battery casing closes tightly, as mentioned above. This means that it can be easily cleaned using water without risking damage or electrocution. The waterproofing also makes it usable on wet hair, but like with any attempt to trim hair when wet, if it’s too long, the water will make it lie down, meaning a difficult cut.

It comes with 5 length settings for trimming hair to different lengths, so really not a lot of options here, though it’s good that it’s an adjustable attachment. That means you won’t have to worry about keeping 3 or 4 different sized attachments handy. Simply slide the guide comb up or down and it’ll click into place. It’s easy to tell what setting you’ve got it on, too, because the length setting number will be displayed on the handle.

You’ll get a decently close shave if you remove the comb, but the shortest length you can get with the comb is 3mm or 1/8″. That’s not very short, especially compared to other trimmers. The five length settings are as follows:

  • 1 = 3mm or 1/8″
  • 2 = 6mm or 1/4″
  • 3 = 9mm or 3/8″
  • 4 = 12mm or 1/2″
  • 5 = 15mm or 5/8″

This trimmer can usually be had for under $20, so for the price, you will get a decent trimmer that gives you a few length options and is actually waterproof. The price to quality ratio is the real draw to this unit, because there aren’t many options out there that will deliver this workability for a low price. While not an all star by any means, it will cut your hair fairly well (although it might have an issue with a long, full beard), and won’t break the bank. Just remember to account for the cost of batteries when making your purchase!

The Panasonic ER2403K Wet/Dry Hair and Beard Trimmer is one of the top trimmers under the Panasonic brand. The 5 length settings make this hair and beard trimmer a fine option as long as you know that one of the lengths will match your preference. If you combine the lightweight, comfortable design, the small blade, the waterproofing and the affordability, it’s hard to argue against the ER2403K as either a secondary back up trimmer or even a decent bargain trimmer.
